View Through

After a disappointing exploration on Friday and being too busy on Saturday to get out I went for a mid-day exploration on Sunday. I was surprised to find theses culverts so close to home. I guess I haven’t turned down this road before. These made for a great subject and I liked how these turned out. For the top photo I was standing in about 8 inches of water and my tripod was almost fully submerged. I had to wrap the strap around the lens to keep from getting wet. It was all worth it to get this angle.

What I love most about the photos above is that the water was at the right depth to make a perfectly symmetrical reflection of the culverts. Below is a 3 angle panorama.

I wanted to return Sunday night for a sunset at this location but it wasn’t meant to be. Fortunately, Monday delivered the goods.

I now call my grey hoodie the “mosquito hoodie”. I’ve sprayed so much OFF spray on it it just reeks of it. It sure keeps those little bastards away though. Needless to say, there were a couple thousands of them keeping me company. Below is a 7 angle panorama.

Bent Out Of Shape

While cruising through an area of burnt trees from last year’s fire, I spotted this tree.

After spending too much time at the bent out of shape tree I had to race to find a spot to catch the last bit of color. Luckily I found this big boulder. The trees in the back make it look like the rock is huge and they are growing on top.

Sandilands Sunset 06-29-09

It is amazing, sometimes, how fast the weather conditions can change. When I headed out for photos there were almost no clear breaks in the sky. I thought it was going to be great conditions for a spectacular sunset. Even though I like how this image turned out, it could have had way more impact if the clouds hung around. This scene was a little challenging to shoot as it was a bit windy. Anyone who knows about shooting HDR knows that wind is not your friend. This was a game of patience and waiting for the right moment. I still have to do a little cloning but very minimal.
